What is Ozempic?

Ozempic®  is a brand name for semaglutide (a type GLP-1 agonist). It’s an injectable prescription medication that was FDA-approved for the treatment of adults with Type 2 diabetes.  Since its release, research has shown that it significantly benefits not only weight loss but also reduces the risk of cardiac events, such as heart attacks and strokes. 

A clinical trial shows that Semaglutide lowers the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes. This study also shows that it reduces cardiovascular risk in individuals who do not have diabetes but are overweight or obese.

How does Ozempic work?

Ozempic helps the pancreas increase insulin production, lowering blood sugar, and signals the brain that you're full. It also slows digestion, which enables you to stay full longer and eat less.

Does Ozempic work for weight loss?

Although Ozempic (semaglutide) is not FDA-approved for weight loss, studies have shown that it does work for weight loss. A clinical trial shows that people lost on average 10-15lbs within 10 months of taking semaglutide.

However, this amount of weight loss is modest when compared with the 15% or more often seen by people taking semaglutide drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy.
